History
of the
Charlotte Adult Baseball League

The league began in 1988. There were 4 teams, 30 & over, playing at Jack Hughes Field in Pineville. Grand Slam and MSBL assisted in the initial organization. After playing the initial year the league formulated a committee of Dave Henry, Bill Clary and Scott Starcher to organize future league development. In 1989 we expanded the league to 6 teams and by 1990 had 8 teams. Games were now played at a variety of locations including UNCC, West Meck, and Garanger. Through those first 3 years our affiliation belonged to the MSBL. ArtWhitaker served as league commissioner for 2 years during the mid-1990's

In 1991 we became affiliated with Roy Hobbs. League officials remained the same in name though Dave Henry, Bill Clary and Scott Starcher may have alternated responsibility in different years. The number of teams fluxuated between 8-10 each year thru 1997. In 1998 T.Ayala took over as Commissioner. During Tom Ayala's couple years the league maintained a team base of 6-8 teams.

In 2002 the league elected a new managing committee. Maurice Brines was elected as league president and Stan Morgan as VP. We now are comprised of 10 teams. We have opened up the age requirement to include all adults 18 and over. The league name has been changed to the Charlotte Adult Baseball league (CABL), has become incorporated, with established by-laws, and is a non-profit organization.
